What This Card Is Best For

The IRCTC SBI RuPay Platinum Credit Card is specifically tailored for individuals who are frequent railway travellers, particularly those who opt for AC class travel. The co-branded design ensures that the most substantial benefits are directly tied to the core activity of booking train tickets via the official IRCTC website or mobile application.

This card represents a valuable choice for the user seeking to maximise savings and value on their train travel expenses. The 10% value-back on AC bookings, coupled with the waiver of the 1% transaction charge, results in a tangible reduction in travel costs. Furthermore, the complimentary railway lounge access enhances the travel experience by providing comfort at major railway stations.

Overview

  • Wide Acceptance: Operates on the RuPay network, ensuring seamless usage across India at both physical and digital outlets, with extended global acceptance through partnered networks.

  • Add-on Card Facility: Allows supplementary cards for family members above 18 years at no additional annual fee, enabling shared benefits under a single spending limit.

  • Cash Withdrawal Access: Provides emergency liquidity through over 1 million ATMs worldwide.

  • Flexipay Convenience: Convert purchases of ₹2,500 or more into affordable EMIs by initiating Flexipay within 30 days of purchase via the SBI Card website.

  • Contactless Payments: Equipped with secure contactless payment technology, enabling quick, tap-and-go transactions for everyday expenses.

Rewards and Benefits

Earning Reward Points

  • 10% Value-back on Train Bookings: The card's primary benefit provides a substantial value-back equivalent to 10% on the total ticket fare for AC1, AC2, AC3, and AC Chair Car bookings. This value-back is credited in the form of reward points (known as SBI Reward Points or Travel Reward Points) when the booking is completed through the official IRCTC website.

  • Base Reward Rate: For all other non-fuel retail purchases, including transactions for railway tickets outside of the preferred AC classes, the cardholder earns 1 reward point for every ₹125 spent. This rate establishes the baseline value-back for all general consumer expenditure.

Redeeming Reward Points

  • IRCTC Ticket Redemption: Reward points can be redeemed on the IRCTC website or mobile application (Android only) at a favourable rate of 1 point = ₹1. The points can be applied towards the total ticket fare, which includes the service charges levied by IRCTC.

  • Linking Requirement: Cardholder must first link their unique 11-digit IRCTC SBI Card Loyalty Number (printed on the card) with their IRCTC login ID.

  • Redemption Rules: Points can be redeemed only for confirmed or RAC train tickets and cannot be used for part payment of a single passenger's fare. If the ticket is cancelled after redemption, the value is refunded as reward points only.

Generous Welcome Benefit

  • 350 Bonus Reward Points: A welcome bonus of 350 reward points is credited to the card account upon the cardholder making their first successful transaction of ₹500 or more within 45 days of the card's issuance date.

Travel and Lifestyle Privileges

  • Complimentary Railway Lounge Access: The card offers the privilege of up to four complimentary access sessions to participating railway lounges per year. This access is limited to a maximum of one visit per quarter, providing a comfortable waiting environment at major railway stations.

  • Waiver of 1% Transaction Charges: Cardholders are exempted from the standard 1% transaction charge levied by IRCTC on ticket bookings, providing a direct and consistent saving on every booking.

Fuel Surcharge Waiver

  • A 1% fuel surcharge waiver is applicable on fuel purchases made at any petrol pump across India. This waiver applies to transactions ranging from ₹500 to ₹3,000.

How To Use the IRCTC SBI RuPay Platinum Credit Card

Tips to maximize your card benefits
Usage TipsDetails
Prioritise IRCTC Bookings
Always use the card for booking AC class (AC1, AC2, AC3, AC CC) railway tickets via the IRCTC website to secure the maximum 10% value-back.
Redeem Points Exclusively on IRCTC
Utilise the accrued reward points primarily for purchasing subsequent railway tickets, leveraging the favourable 1 point = ₹1 redemption ratio for maximum travel value.
Link Loyalty Number
Ensure the 11-digit IRCTC SBI Card Loyalty Number is promptly linked to the IRCTC login ID to enable both reward accumulation and redemption.
Utilise Railway Lounge Access
Take advantage of the one complimentary railway lounge visit per quarter at eligible stations to enhance the pre-boarding experience.
Mind the Fuel Cap
Use the card for fuel transactions between ₹500 and ₹3,000, but be aware of the monthly waiver cap of ₹100, and consider the base reward exclusion on fuel spends.
Opt for Flexipay for Large Buys
For large-value retail purchases (₹2,500+), convert them into Flexipay EMIs within 30 days to manage the overall debt load efficiently.

Things To Know

Important information about this card
  • Check the reward exclusions, as fuel, rent, wallet loads, and government payments do not earn points.
  • Note that the annual renewal fee of ₹500 + GST is fixed and cannot be waived based on yearly spending.
  • Redeem reward points primarily on IRCTC bookings to get the best value, as other redemption options offer lower returns.
  • Be aware that the card offers access only to select railway lounges, not airport lounges.
  • Review IRCTC's redemption terms carefully, since points can only be used for confirmed or RAC AC class tickets.

The IRCTC SBI RuPay Platinum Credit Card is designed for users who want to maximize their credit card benefits effectively.

Do's

  • Use the card exclusively for AC train ticket bookings via the IRCTC website to gain the full 10% value-back.
  • Ensure prompt payment of the full balance to avoid the high-interest Finance Charge of 3.50% per month (42% per annum).
  • Utilise the one-per-quarter complimentary railway lounge access whenever travelling via a major station.
  • Link the IRCTC Loyalty Number to the IRCTC ID immediately to activate point accrual and redemption capabilities.
  • Convert high-value transactions (₹2,500+) to Flexipay within the 30-day window to manage large expenditures.

Don't

  • Expect value-back on everyday expenses, as the base reward rate is low and many categories are excluded from accrual.
  • Use the card for cash advances due to the immediate high fees and interest applied from the day of withdrawal.
  • Miss the payment due date, as the tiered late payment charges are significant and negatively impact the credit history.
  • Assume the renewal fee is waivable; be aware that the ₹300 + GST renewal fee is mandatory regardless of annual spending.
  • Cancel a redeemed ticket without understanding that only reward points, not cash, will be credited back to the loyalty account.
